Valdy (born Paul Valdemar Horsdal) began his career playing guitar in rock and country groups, most notably, the London Town Criers and the Prodigal Sons. In the late sixties, he adopted a country-folk style, and in 1972 came to national attention with “Rock and Roll Song”, a single from his first LP, Country Man. Over the next nine years he released eight additional LPs, four of which sold more than 50,000 copies in Canada. During this period Valdy began to tour extensively, both nationally and internationally, playing concerts and folk festivals. Although less prominent during the 1980s, he remained a fixture on the Canadian folk circuit. He also performed for children and, on occasion, with symphony orchestras, maintaining a yearly itinerary of some 200 performances. In the 1990s, he continued to tour and perform and launched his own record label, Rack on Tour. Most recently he has taken to collaborating with cowboy singer-songwriter Gary Fjellgaard. The two have toured throughout Canada and continue to perform together. He makes his home on Salt Spring Island.

Valdy understands that people come to his shows to be entertained and, as such, he tailors each of his shows to suit his audience. He has a distinctive voice and accompanies himself with guitar-playing that seems effortless, masking a underlying musical complexity. His songs reflect the joys, struggles and accomplishments in all of our lives and are spiced with a wry humour. For his Regina show, Valdy will be appearing as a solo act.
