Andrew Smith is an accomplished instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who has been busy playing folk clubs, festivals and concerts - both as a solo performer and as a duo with his son Zachari. His live shows combine his award-winning talent as a singer-songwriter with his superb instrumentation. He plays original instrumental pieces, which often feature his unique ‘tap’ style, as well as singing songs about his travels and loves, along with an occasional political rant. Andrew’s last appearance in Regina, in early 2008, was met with critical acclaim.

Andrew has released three solo albums, his most recent, Into the Woods, in May of 2010. He has won numerous awards including the prestigious 2006 Kerrville New Folk Competition on the strength of his songs “Rite of Passage” and “Holes in the Night Sky”. His songs have received honourable mention at the Singer-Songwriter Awards and The Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, and have been shortlisted for the International Songwriting Contest. Andrew also works as a music producer and performs with the folk-roots trio Smith, Funk and Strauss as well as the seven-piece band the Floorbirds.

Zachari Smith is a one-of-a-kind mix of original folk and alternative country. His songwriting and voice harken back to early Dylan and are coupled with Beatlesque sensibilities. He speaks to the political, social and cultural problems of the global society, but moves beyond simple critique with visions for the future. His deep poetic insights and strong political satire are coupled with an original voice and strong musical acuity. Since 2005, Zachari has released an EP, a single and two albums, the latest, A Once Forested Country, in 2008.
