The three founding members and creative heart of British folk-rock group, Oysterband will perform ten shows in Canada as Oysters 3 from October 25 to November 4. "These Canadian shows will be presented with a good deal of spontaneity and laced with off-the-wall and not-entirely-discreet stories from forty unbroken years on the road," says band member, Ian Telfer. "It will be an insight into our history with great songs from every era of our fiercely independent career."

The Oysters call their music "folk-based" and "acoustic at heart" because of their deep love and knowledge of British traditional song and music. But at the same time, they consider it important to write their own songs and reflect the world as they find it today. They like to say their experience makes them sympathetic to the green, the left and the skeptical; yet they also love the rich diversity of tradition.

Oysterband began in England in 1978 as a sort of punk folk-dance (or "ceilidh") outfit, but got the taste for writing songs and rapidly evolved into a concert act, first in folk clubs and later, as they gathered a following, in theatres, civic halls and rock clubs and at festivals. Over forty years they have steadily expanded into an international act, touring in thirty-five countries and releasing thirteen studio albums.

Oysterband is widely regarded as the most consistently creative and exciting performers and writers of folk rock of recent years in UK. Their combination of folk sensibility and strong, literate lyrics with rock and other techniques is distinctive, and finds an audience across language barriers. But every so often, the guys feel the need to do something a little different - hence, Oysters 3.
