Stephen Fearing was born in Vancouver (1963) to an Irish mother and an English father. His parents divorced when he was six and he and his mother moved to Ireland. Fearing spent his formative years in Ireland attending Mount Temple Comprehensive School where his history teacher, Donald Moxham (the same teacher that helped the band U2 get their start), encouraged him to pursue music. In 1982 Fearing returned to Vancouver and began his musical career. He subsequently moved to Guelph (1994) and then onto Halifax (2008). He is currently in the process of relocating to Victoria, BC.

Fearing is one of the pre-eminent singer-songwriters in Canada today. He is an engaging performer and a natural storyteller. His masterful and boundary-breaking guitar work, bottomless coffer of insightful songs, and powerful smoky voice have garnered him a fiercely loyal following both nationally and internationally. He is also a well-respected producer whose name frequently pops up on recordings across the country. On stage, Fearing explodes with an energy that keeps audience members on the edge of their seats to the very last note.

Since releasing his first album, Out to Sea in 1988, Fearing has released seven subsequent solo albums; his latest, Between Hurricanes, in 2013. In addition to his solo work, Fearing is a founding member of the Canadian 'Super-Group' Blackie and the Rodeo Kings and one-half of Fearing and White. Throughout his career Fearing has garnered multiple awards including two Juno Awards, a Canadian Folk Music Award and a West Coast Music Award.
