The Sweet Lowdown is an acoustic old-time/bluegrass/folk trio based in Victoria B.C. and is comprised of Amanda Blied (guitar/vocals), Shanti Bremer (banjo/vocals) and Miriam Sonstenes (fiddle/vocals). Drawn together by their mutual passion for old-time Americana music, hard-driving bluegrass, sweet harmonies and well-wrought songs, they pay homage to their musical roots while simultaneously breaking new ground. Each member contributes to the bands original repertoire, and each has a unique vocal flair as well as impressive instrumental chops. The Sweet Lowdown has the ability to play to, draw in and excite a diverse audience - young and old, lovers of traditional music, as well as those new to it.
The Sweet Lowdown's self-titled debut album was released in 2011 and was nominated for Roots Album of the Year by the Vancouver Island Music Awards (VIMA). Their second album, May, was released in 2012 and won the VIMA for Roots Album of the Year and was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in the Vocal Group of the Year category. Their third album is due to be released this September.
Over the last three years The Sweet Lowdown has toured extensively across North America. Earlier this year they completed their first European tour.
